Rain, sun, ice, and wind attack unprotected wood surfaces, destroying their natural beauty. First, water penetrates into wood causing it to swell. Then blistering heat from the sun dries the wood out leaving it brittle. This continues cycle of expansion and contraction causes wood to warp, splinter and crack. Exposure to the sun's ultraviolet rays turns bare wood grey and uneven in color. Moisture on wood creates an environment conducive to mildew growth.

Wood surfaces need more than just protection from water damage. Unfortunately, many conventional water sealants have not provided the extra protection that wood deserves. Surface sealants lie on top of the wood and do not dive into the wood as a penetrating finish does.

While surface sealers form a protective layer on the top of the wood, they can be easily scuffed off with heavy foot traffic or sliding furniture. Surface films can also clog the wood pores, and with repeated use, cause build-up that can peal and flake.

A penetrating finish dives into the wood, working from the inside out and allowing for longer protection from nature's damaging elements.

What Pro Clean Specialists Recommends

Pro Clean recommends cleansing the wood from contaminants such as old finishes, dirt and mildew. Then applying a wood brightener to neutralize the ph. Lightly sand any rough edges or splintered boards. Then make sure nails/screws are completely driven into the wood. After the wood has dried, a long lasting top quality penetrating sealant is applied.
