Before After
Periodic Maintenance and Cleaning Unlike wood, composite decking is a low maintenance material. If wood is not maintained, it will fail prematurely. Composites on the other hand, will not fail if not maintained. Composite decking gets dirty just like any material. It is not impervious to grease and dirt. The best preventative maintenance is to sweep often followed by scheduled maintenance of cleaning and/or staining.
Cleaning the Deck Several different cleaners are used to clean your deck, depending on the manufacturer. Allow the cleaner to sit for 10-15 minutes before pressure washing off at very low pressure. Less than 1000 psi. Some composite decking companies specify the use of no pressure washing.
Mold and Mildew Mold and mildew can grow on your composite deck. Mold is a lower form of plant life that can grow and colonize on any surface, including rock, steel, etc. Mildew is not caused by decking lumber. Mildew can and does propogate on all decking, including composite decks. Often mildew growth that is thought to be growing on composite decks is actually growing on a surface film which has accumulated on the deck. Please give us a call to discuss your exact composite deck and ways to keep it looking like new, and even enhance the appearance. Cleaned and still a little wet This clearly shows what a difference a cleaning can make
Restore your deck to a new appearance You can see the handrail has been stained while the floor is waiting for stain. This shows the same deck matched with the cedar posts. |
